“AFRICAN CULTURE-Fest” is a project which seeks to promote the cultural relationship between Africans, German and other foreigners living in Germany. The main purpose of this project is to promote the rich cultures and traditions of the African continent and to gradually wipe off the negative stereotypes and perceptions people have. It is a chance for Africans to take charge of the narratives themselves and tell the stories about their people and country, mainly on their cultural heritage. The event also seeks to promote togetherness in diversity, intercultural inclusion and to educate people who have little to no knowledge of the African continent, on the uniqueness of the different African counties and their individuals traditions.

The maiden edition of the event took place on Saturday, 26th August 2023 in Bayreuth, Bavaria, with 5 representatives from different African countries, namely, Kenya, Ghana, Tunisia, Nigeria and Uganda. These representatives spoke about their countries and showcased their individual cultures. The segments, which included a selling point speech, traditional outfit display and cultural showcase, gave the country representatives the chance to introduce and throw light on the uniqueness of their countries in all aspects.

The event was organised by Hawawu Sulemana, under AFRI-DISCOVERY. She is a Ghanaian lady who is very passionate about all aspects of African culture and dedicated to its promotion. Over the years, she has been an advocate in the area of African culture through performances, catering, speeches, and cultural education.

The event was supported by the Iwalewahaus and the Studentenwerk in Bayreuth.
